Founder and CEO of JBIER Inc., Jessica Bierman, is quickly making a name for herself in the fashion industry following the rapid expansion of her fashion, beauty, and lifestyle e-commerce boutique. However, Bierman's entrepreneurial journey did not begin here. Fueled by a longstanding passion for the intersection of fashion and sustainability, Bierman began her Poshmark business @jbier in March of 2015. In only a few months, she earned a leadership role within the community as a Poshmark Ambassador. Today, she has accumulated 300 five-star reviews and grown an incredible 60,000 loyal following on the platform that started it all. In celebration of these achievements, we sat down with Bierman to discuss her company's success.
What sparked your passion for fashion and sustainability?
I have always considered my aunt, Adrienne Landau, an impactful role model, designer, and fashion industry icon. Growing up in her showroom, I was immersed in fashion. I used to run around collecting scraps from the showroom and making unique pieces that still inspire me today. My life-long passion for fashion blossomed into a desire to start my Poshmark business in 2015. I continued to pursue these interests after graduating from the business school at the University of Maryland through my positions at Macy’s and The Estée Lauder Companies.
Starting out as a Poshmark seller, what strategies do you believe contributed to your success?
When I decided to start selling on Poshmark in 2015, my strategy for success was simple: invest in our people, ensure we offer the highest quality products, provide top-of-the-line customer service, and stay on top of industry trends. In every step of the process, I strive to make sure that my customers feel valued and appreciated by offering free gifts with purchases, handwritten thank you notes, and customized packaging.
Immediately, I established goals for myself. I rapidly expanded my business by gathering data on the specific requirements involved in becoming a Poshmark Ambassador. This enabled me to understand the complexities of Poshmark, thereby allowing me to make informed decisions necessary for my success. Each goal I accomplished served as a checkpoint in achieving the next. In Poshmark, I was looking for a community of people who shared the same dreams and interests as me while I built my small business @jbier. Poshmark granted me the opportunity to connect with a diverse group of shoppers around the world and turn a one-woman operation into a thriving full-time business.
Any advice for aspiring Poshmark sellers?
One word of advice is to never give up. Never think that something is too small or too unattainable, your goals and dreams set the path for your success. After taking a chance on myself by starting a business amidst a global pandemic, it is clear to me that challenges in our lives present opportunities for further self-growth. That's a sure way to find out what you want, what you don't want, and, ultimately, who you really are. It’s never too early nor too late to start pursuing your dreams.
Tell me about your decision to turn your loyal Poshmark following into a thriving e-commerce company.
I started my journey with Poshmark in March of 2015. Five years later, I found myself and, of course, my puppy Bella parting ways with New York, booking a one-way ticket to move across the country, and beginning a new life in California. There, I explored a career in the beauty industry and, although I was building an amazing life that I was very excited about, it just did not feel like home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I flew back home to New York and felt more panicked than ever. When I sat down and thought about what I know, what I am good at, and what I am most passionate about, it was clear that my love for Poshmark had way more potential than just a side-hustle. I took my passion and successfully turned my Poshmark closet into a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle e-commerce boutique.
After working in the beauty, fashion, and retail industries for over ten years, I knew I wanted to start my own business. Possessing such focus and determination at a very young stage in my professional career, exposed me to invaluable skills that are essential to succeed as a manager, entrepreneur, and mentor.
Ultimately, this opportunity made me realize how much I love working with people. Interpersonal skills are essential to possess as an entrepreneur and skills that I hold dear to my heart. I strive every day to ensure that my customers have an enjoyable shopping experience, in addition to giving my JBIER team the best and most prosperous working environment.
What does the 60K milestone mean to you?
This achievement really serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication I have put into JBIER Inc. Even more so, I think it represents my passion for both fashion and sustainability. I am so humbled by my team and their constant perseverance and commitment
to the success of JBIER. I could not have done it without them.

Do you have any goals for the future of your Poshmark business?
I truly cherish this achievement and will use it as inspiration to promote the future growth of JBIER Inc. I am a firm believer in goals. Establishing objective milestones for myself and my business helped me turn my passion into a career and lifestyle that is constantly evolving. I would not change it for anything in the world. I truly believe I am where I need to be and am confident that the company will continue to grow and evolve as new perspectives begin to play a larger role within the organization. It has always been a dream of mine to be recognized by Forbe's 30 under 30 I strive every day to provide the best service to my customers and the best mentorship to my team. By following my passions and intuition, I have developed into a versatile, trusted, and experienced entrepreneur. This change in my life has sparked a lot of different interests that I am excited to share with the world.
